The Dixieland Express Jazz Band is a division of the Really Terrible Orchestra of Westchester.  The Band was started 3 years ago by Dr. Norman Weiss who plays the tenor banjo.  A Scarsdale psychiatrist who had always wanted to play in a dixieland band, Norm connected with Les Krasnogor (clarinet) and Jeanne Velonis (accordion) at a rehearsal of The Really Terrible Orchestra. Thus, the Band was established as a trio but rapidly grew and now consists of 13 musicians and one vocalist.  The group currently includes percussion, an Irish drum (bohdran), saxophone, trumpet, cornet, keyboard, electric guitar, bass guitar, clarinet, two banjos and an accordion. The Band has played in many venues throughout Westchester and has been popular with all age groups who seem to love this fun music which has persisted in popularity since the 1910's.  The Jazz Band is available to play at private parties as well as at institutional functions.  Contact Norm at 914-723-4343.
